2026 reform watch: "Earned Settlement" The Government's May 2025 white paper proposes moving the standard ILR qualifying period from 5 to 10 years, with reductions possible for certain contributions. A consultation closed in February 2026 and further rule changes are expected later in 2026. The current 5/3/10-year rules remain in force for now — the AI Advisor keeps this page updated as things change.
